Oh…. you better watch out…

23 Dec

…you better not cry.  You better not pout, I’m tellin’ you why…

Santa Claus is coming to toooown….

I made lots of Santas to ship off to family for the holidays, along with these:

And these little Christmas tree ornaments made by Jolie with some help from mom:

We made the ornaments by cutting two triangles from felt and hot gluing them together with a couple of popsicle sticks sandwiched in between.  Then we cut a slit in the top of the triangle and tied a ribbon to make a loop by which to hang the ornament. After that I let Jolie write her name on the back of the tree in Sharpie.  Finally, we hot glued pieces of ribbon and some small pom-pom balls, along with a gold star I cut out of cardstock with a medium size star punch, onto the felt.  Jolie and I were both really happy with how these turned out, and aside from the couple of times she touched the hot glue (ouch!), she had fun helping make them.  Her favorite part was writing her name on the back.

Turkeys and Treeeeeees!!

13 Dec

It’s the holiday season… 🙂

I neglected to post my Thanksgiving turkey cake pops – here they are!  Very time consuming (even though I used a cake mix – GASP!) but they turned out to be super cute.  I was really pleased with them! A big step up from those horrendous jack-o-lantern pops.

The turkey heads were made using these delicious little pumpkin pie flavored caramels purchased at Harry and David, and the beaks were little candy-coated chocolate sprinkles I got from Michaels.  I used royal icing to make the red wattle and black eyes (worked SO much better than trying to use a food coloring pen!!).  The feet were pretzels.  Fun, fun!

Now on to some more timely treats… Christmas tree cookies!

I whipped these up in a hurry, so didn’t spend a lot of time on the design or decorating process.  I thought they were cute, nonetheless.  I did get the yellow icing too thick, which made making neat loops, curves and zig-zags on the trees difficult.  I little messy-looking, even… and I did not like how the star turned out atop the tree… but that’s okay, they were for a kid’s Christmas party, and I’m sure the kids didn’t mind one bit. 😉
